Joan Miró was born in 1893 in the historic centre of the city of Barcelona, between the Rambles and the Plaça Sant Jaume, near the Gothic quarter. His childhood was spent among the hustle and bustle of one of the most cosmopolitan streets in the world, and the historical weight of an area housing the Cathedral, the City Hall and the Government building.
